Northeast Farm Credit associations and CoBank recently awarded $20,600 in AgEnhancement Grants to eight creative nonprofit organizations in the Northeast.

This column usually features the outstanding work of just one of the most recent grant recipients. But in this issue, we list all eight recent recipients to illustrate the diversity of organizations and projects that are successfully promoting Northeast agriculture, such as through youth programs or educational programs for the nonfarm public.

The most recent grant recipients and their projects are:

• Community Involved in Sustaining Agriculture (Western Massachusetts):Workshops for The Farmer’s Market Leadership Program

• Eastern States Exposition (Massachusetts): Training on consumer protection at public events that involve farm animals

• Fernbrook Farms Education Center (New Jersey): Summer camp program for low income, urban children

• Holstein Foundation, Inc. (Vermont): Young Dairy Leaders Institute

• Maine TREE Foundation (Maine): 2006 teachers’ tours as part of the Maine Forests Program and also Project Learning curriculum materials

• New York State Agricultural Society (New York): 2007 Century Farm Family awards

• New York Agricultural Land Trust (New York): Development of an agricultural land trust

• Pilgrim Resource Conservation & Development Area Council, Inc. (Massachusetts): A livestock producer survey
